Thyroid Disorders

Thyroid is not a disease, it's a gland situated in the neck on anterior aspect. The thyroid gland produces T3 and T4 hormones in sufficient quantities.

Thyroid Disorder Includes:


When the thyroid gland produces less or insufficient T3 and T4 hormones then it is called hypothyroidism.

Weight gain, hair fall, lethargy, constipation, depression, fatigue, menstrual irregularity, infertility are the most common signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism. .

Hypothyroidism is the most common disorder in India, specially in females. It is diagnosed by a simple blood test (TSH) and treatment is also easy by taking thyroid hormone pill on daily basis


Hyperthyroidism s a condition where the thyroid gland produces excess amount of thyroid hormone i.e. T3 and T4. Weight loss, palpitation, sweating, restlessness are some of the common symptoms.

It is diagnosed by a simple blood test & thyroid scan. Initially it is treated with pill for one to two years and then by radioactive iodine therapy or sometimes surgical removal of thyroid gland.

Thyroid nodules/Thyroid Cancer

Thyroid nodule or swelling in anterior aspect of our neck. 40 to 60% of the Indian adult population suffer from a thyroid nodule / swelling. All thyroid nodules are not cancerous but early detection of thyroid cancer make a great difference in the patient's life with thyroid nodules.

Thyroid nodule/cancer is diagnosed by ultrasonography, FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology)

Thyroid Nodules/cancer is treated by surgical removal of the thyroid gland, radioactive iodine therapy and medication.
